Backed into something short, like a bollard/pole at a gas station, parking garage etc.

That crease in the bumper support looks too sharp to have been rear ended by anything except a motorcycle or a small boat.

The trunk lid looks like it was pulled in my the trunk latch, so whatever it was had to be shorter than it.

Your analysis makes sense, but you do need some decent speed to damage it that severely. This is no parking dent.

Maybe hit a bollard or similar? Would have to be while reversing at quite some speed tho...

Stay in school kids, or you might be wrapping yourself around a pole.

That bump on the top right corner of the trunk really confuses me.

Sure the trunk would bend if you reverse into something with a relative high rate of speed, but surely not like that.

Most likely a pedal mix up.

Pretty spot-on analysis, I’d say.

I take some of that back.

There is some contact on the trunk lid. Maybe 18" wide, relatively flat. Weird that something could impact the edge of the trunk lid, but be slim enough to dent that bumper support that way.

Looks like it could be ribbed, too.

Could possibly have been rear-ended by a pickup with a plow-mount, too. they can be low enough to submarine a trunk/bumper.

Pepper your trunk lid.

Maybe if you could see out the back of modern cars, this wouldn’t happen!
